A night celebrating Space exploration

Shackleton the sculpture by ho1, realised after the Japanese Aerospace Agency scanning of the moon will be part of Padova Space week, an event dedicated to the adventurous spirit of space explorations.

Shackleton is named as the crater located at the south pole of the moon, and it faithfully reproduces lunar morphology using 3D satellite surveys carried out on the planet’s terrain, simultaneously becoming in its final form a seat and an atlas with which one can retrace every single sea or crater. The sculpture is made of aluminium and produced with the patented T-sculpt technology, which allows for the heating or cooling of the object in a range of 5-45°C

ho1 was part of a new project integrating design and multimedia.
The Shackleton sculpture was chosen as part of the installation and performance project Forrás at the EXPO Hungarian Pavillion from September 21st untill October 31st. Shackleton was the symbolic presence of the Forrás project, representing the heavenly world, the highest step in the shamanic journey and the vital energy of water, both inspiring themes for the architecture of the pavillion.

In the case of Shackleton the cooled down surface reacting with the atmosphere produces the surprising effect to be covered by a thin veil of dew.

ho1 at Milan design week.

A warmed sculptural bench in a garden, an organic radiator in a private apartment, a big urban installation in a city square, an original cooled armchair, this and more is t-sculpt: a new patented technology developed by ho1 multidisciplinary practice and presented during Milan design week at the Temporary Museum for New Design at the Superstudio Più, within an exhibition showcasing projects by emerging realities along with renowned artists and designers like Michelangelo Pistoletto, Nendo and Karim Rashid.

The new technology has been displayed through a transversal approach covering a range of inspirations from satellite scanning to the arts & crafts movement: design as a way to tell stories, an adventurous journey where the narrative dimension merges function with imagination.

During the 70th Venice Film Festival the sea space in front of Hotel Excelsior was the location of an original and fascinating performance. The project conceived by ho1, turned a sailing boat in a surprising scenography.

ho1, who recently developed an installation for MUSE: the new science museum in Trento designed by Renzo Piano, this time chose the sea as the ideal location to imagine a relationship between art, cinema and landscape. Punt e Mes, sailed at dawn from Trieste and reached Venice at twilight with on board a singular crew of sailors, artists and videomakers. After the sunset the big white sails were turned into a cinematic screen through an original video-projection system designed and realized by ho1. The subject of the screening was the result of a collaboration with the director and producers of the movie Piccola Patria.

The performance greeted with enthusiasm by the audience on the seafront, was an astonishing blend of sailing skills and multimedia competence, designing magic light shadows in the night. This successful experiment was the first step in a project that will see further applications involving theatre, art and communication…

Art & Science.

Following the invitation of Muse ho1 took part in the two days celebrating the opening of the new science museum in Trento designed by Renzo Piano. Muse opening was an astonishing event, 30.000 people attended the vernissage on july 27th and 28th. We presented the prototypes and the technology of our Shackleton sculpture on the “inventori” performance that took place on the main stage on Sunday morning…the real sculpture was installed just in front of the entrance of the museum in the contest of the “big bang” show organized by galleria Boccanera in collaboration with Muse.
Shackleton shape reproduces the morphology of the lunar surface rebuilt following in detail Japan Aerospace Agency analysis, in this occasion the sculpture was enhanced with a particular version of our patented t-sculpt™ technology that allows for thermal control of the aluminium casting: we cooled down the surface to the point that the metal started to be covered by little drops of water, turning Shackleton in a spectacular object…attracting people of every age who were staring, touching and sitting on it…with temperature raising up to 40 degrees a cool and welcoming sheleter for all the visitors passing by…
Shackleton will be on show until september 7th, 2013…
